Can an AI receptionist speak Hindi?

Yes - Hindi, including Hinglish, and it follows you when you switch mid-sentence.

Almost every Indian business call has some Hindi in it, and most of it is not textbook Hindi: it is a caller who opens in English, gives the address in Hindi, and asks 'kitna time lagega?' halfway through. FrontivaAI is built for that mix. This page is specific about what that means on a live call, where the edges are, and which languages it does not speak.

How the switching actually works

The language is decided by the caller's last full sentence, not by a menu and not by a setting. There is no 'Hindi ke liye 2 dabayein'.

What Hindi sounds like on the call

It is spoken Hindi, not read-out text: prices as 'saat hazaar', times as 'subah dus baje', dates by day and month. Callers hear a receptionist, not a screen reader. Formal register by default, and it does not slip into slang.

You choose which languages your line uses

A clinic that only ever hears English and Hindi can switch Telugu and Tamil off, and the agent will not attempt them. It says, once and warmly, that the front desk can help better, and transfers. A half-understood conversation is worse for your customer than a clean handover.

What it does not do

It does not speak Marathi, Gujarati, Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam or Punjabi, and we will not give you a date for them. It also does not translate between two people - it answers the caller in the caller's language.

The short answer

Hindi and Hinglish, properly, alongside English, Telugu and Tamil. If your callers speak anything else, tell us before you buy.

Frequently asked questions

Does the caller have to pick a language?

No, and it never asks. It listens and follows.

Does it understand Hinglish?

Yes - that is the most common way callers actually speak, and it answers in the same mix.

Can I make the opening line Hindi?

The greeting is English by default and names the languages your line speaks; the agent switches the moment the caller replies in Hindi.

Is Hindi an extra charge?

No. Pricing is by the minute and does not change with the language.

Does it understand Hindi numbers and dates?

Yes, and it says them back as Hindi words rather than reading digits in English.

What about Marathi or Gujarati?

Not supported today. It will say so once, politely, and transfer to your team rather than guess.
