Can an AI receptionist transfer a call to a real person?
Yes - the moment they ask, and sometimes before they ask.
This is the second question in every sales conversation, and the honest answer matters more than the feature. An AI that traps people is worse than no AI at all. FrontivaAI hands over on request, and it also hands over on its own judgement in the situations where a person is genuinely needed.
At a glance
| What the caller does | What happens |
|---|
| Asks for a person, a manager, or the doctor by name | Transferred straight away, no arguing, no second attempt to help |
| Describes something urgent - severe pain, bleeding, an emergency | Transferred immediately, without being asked |
| Asks something outside the knowledge base twice | Offered a transfer rather than a guess |
| Is angry or upset | Transferred |
| Speaks a language it does not have | Told once, warmly, that your desk can help better - then transferred |
| A tool fails twice on the same task | Transferred rather than looping |
It says one line, then connects
There is no hold music and no menu. The agent says a single short line - 'let me get you to our front desk, please stay on the line' - and dials the number you nominated, with the caller still connected.
- The transfer number is yours, set in the dashboard, and you can change it any time
- It is normally the front desk, and out of hours it is usually a mobile
- The call is one leg, so the caller is not asked to redial
What happens if nobody answers
This is the part most vendors will not tell you. If the transfer is not picked up, the caller is back with the AI, which apologises once, takes their number and what they wanted, and the call appears in your dashboard as needing a call back. It does not silently drop them, and it does not pretend somebody is coming.
Asking about languages is not a transfer
A caller saying 'Hindi mein baat karo' or 'do you speak Telugu?' is asking an ordinary question, not asking for a human. The agent answers in that language and carries on. Getting this wrong is the most common way an AI receptionist ends up transferring half its calls for no reason.
Frequently asked questions
Can I turn transfers off?
You can, but we would advise against it. Being able to reach a person is what makes callers relax about the rest.
Can it transfer to different numbers for different things?
Today it transfers to one nominated number. Routing by department is not something we do yet.
Does the person get any context?
The call appears in your dashboard with a transcript of everything said before the transfer. The person picking up does not get a spoken summary.
Does a transferred call still use my minutes?
The AI portion does. Once the call is with your team it is an ordinary call on your line.
What if it transfers too often?
You can see every transfer and its reason in the dashboard. If a reason keeps recurring, it usually means an answer is missing from the knowledge base.
